Children’s dentistry generally includes your child’s first dental visit, regular exams and cleanings, dental sealants and fluoride treatments, and sometimes traditional orthodontics. From the first time you bring your child to JL Dental, we’ll focus on creating a caring, calming environment and using a gentle touch to encourage him or her to feel comfortable in the dental chair. The early years of our children’s dentistry program are designed to get your child interested in dental care and help prevent dental anxiety in the future.
Your Child’s First Dental Visit
Children’s dentistry usually starts around the age of three, but it can begin earlier if you notice that your child’s development is encountering problems. During their very first visit, your child will be too young to really sit still in the dental chair for too long, so we’ll perform a quick examination, counting your child’s baby teeth and introducing him or her to the dental office environment. We want this first visit to be enjoyable and laid back; a great first time will make it much easier for your child to visit us in the future.
Your Child’s Oral Development
As your child grows, he or she will go through various phases of oral development and children’s dentistry. When their adult molars come in, we’ll place dental sealants for added cavity protection. Fluoride treatments will be used to strengthen their teeth, and we’ll keep track of their development to determine if orthodontics are needed.
